Director of Public Works

Community Background:

Easttown Township is located approximately 15 miles outside of Philadelphia, on the eastern edge of Chester County and on the western end of Philadelphia Main Line. It is a suburban community of approximately 10,500 residents. The Township is currently experiencing a mix of residential and commercial development and redevelopment and strives to maintain its excellent quality of life. 

The Position:

The Public Works Department’s employees and subcontractors are responsible for the Township’s infrastructure, including the sanitary sewer system and 48 miles of roads; maintenance of two parks, the Township Building, historic resources, and fleet; and oversight of the outsourced residential trash and recycling collection. 

The Director leads Public Works, providing strategic direction to the Department and professional advice to the Board of Supervisors, staff, and vendors. The Director is responsible for preparing an annual budget and capital improvement plan, as well as assessing the costs and benefits of new and existing initiatives.  Involvement with capital projects will vary from developing and managing larger projects to overseeing and evaluating others. The Director represents the Township in relations with the public, community groups, other municipalities, and outside agencies.

The Director is expected to have strong leadership, communication and people skills; the ability to manage in a busy environment; and knowledge of state and federal regulations.

Candidates should ideally have management experience in public works, building and construction, or a related field.  A bachelor's degree in engineering or a discipline relevant to the position is desired.
